Dig up the loot

Twelve treasures. One pirate dig.

Start with a chest-shaped block topped by a pirate skull. Chip away at the surface to uncover gem pieces, coins and other hidden treasures, then brush each one clean.

Unfold the map, compare the finds and gather them in the separate mini chest. The treasure hunt can carry on after the last piece comes out.

The hidden collection

Count your way to twelve.

Sort the finds by shape and color as they emerge. The assortment mixes pirate props with shiny gem-shaped and stone-like pieces.

5 faceted gem pieces
Blue, purple, yellow, green and red
3 coins
Two gold-colored coins and one copper-colored skull coin
1 key
An ornate gold-colored key piece
1 pirate skull
A skull piece with a red bandana
2 stone-like finds
One smooth purple piece and one metallic-looking cluster

These are play treasures, not a collection of 12 precious gemstones or solid-gold coins.

The twelve treasures: five colored gem pieces, three coins, a key, a pirate skull and two stone-like pieces
From block to treasure

Chip carefully. Brush often.

Work around each treasure as it appears. You do not need to finish the block in one sitting.

Hammer, chisel and brush uncover treasures inside the skull-topped digging block
1

Cover the work surface.

Set the block on a tray or an easy-to-clean, covered surface. Keep the map and mini chest away from the loose digging material.

2

Start with small chips.

Use the chisel and hammer carefully to remove material. Follow the instructions supplied with your kit, including any guidance about adding water.

3

Free each treasure.

Work around an exposed piece, then brush away the loose material. Set each find aside as you continue through the block.

4

Count, compare and collect.

Count all 12 finds, compare them with the map and gather them in the mini chest. Clear the work surface when you finish.

Included treasure map with pictured finds, a compass rose and marked locations around the Caribbean
Unfold the map

Match the treasure. Pick a route.

Lay out the map beside your cleaned finds. Look for the matching pictures, spot the compass rose and trace a route between the marked locations.

Choose where your crew will sail next. The map gives the coins, key and gem pieces a place in the story after the excavation.

Look
Find a picture that matches a treasure.
Trace
Follow a route across the map.
Tell
Make up what happens at the next stop.
Keep the loot

Fill the little chest. Plan another hunt.

Gather the cleaned treasures in the mini chest. Hide it nearby and make a few clues of your own for the next round of play.

Count the pieces before putting them away so the key, skull, coins and gems stay together.

Costumes, model ships and other scene props shown in the photographs are not included.

Children use the map and mini treasure chest during pretend pirate play; costumes and model ships are scene props
An adult and child work together on the pirate digging block; costumes and barrel are scene props
A dig to share

Two chisels. Two brushes. One block.

Take turns using the hammer, or let one person dig while another brushes the latest find. The second chisel and brush mean you can swap jobs without passing every tool back and forth.

For a party where each child needs a separate block, choose an individual-block set. This kit is one shared excavation.

Before you start

A few practical answers.

Check the two chests, shared tools and packaging details before planning your dig.

Is the large chest a storage box?

The large skull-topped chest is the digging block. A separate mini treasure chest is included for the finds.

Are the gems precious stones and the coins real gold?

Treat the assortment as pirate play treasures. The colored gem pieces and gold-colored coins are not sold as precious gemstones or solid gold.

How many children can dig?

The box includes one block, one hammer, two chisels and two brushes. Children can take turns at the same block; it is not a set of separate party-favor digs.

How long does the dig take?

There is no fixed completion time. It depends on how you work through the block and how often you stop to clean and compare the finds.

Can I choose the packaging version?

No. Old and new box designs ship at random. The product inside is identical.

Are the costumes and ships included?

No. The costumes, model ships, binoculars and scene props in the lifestyle photographs are not part of the kit. Use the contents list above to check what is supplied.
