How to play

Dig. Brush. Match. Make.

Set up the dig.

Cover the table and put the block on a tray you provide. Keep food and drinks away, and read the supplied instructions together.

Uncover one find at a time.

Use the hammer and chisel as directed to loosen the block. As a find appears, work around it carefully instead of striking it.

Brush and compare.

Brush away loose material. Place each find beside the poster and compare its color and pattern with the labeled pictures.

Choose a pendant.

Pick a find that fits a spring cage. Follow the supplied directions to make a pendant and attach it to one of the two cords.

Unfold the poster

Give each find a name and a month.

Lay the poster beside your cleaned finds. Start with an easy color match, read the label together, then compare two pieces that look different up close.

Ask your child to find their own month, a friend’s birthday or a favorite color. There is more than one way to choose what goes in a necklace.

Make something from your dig

A favorite find can become a necklace.

Choose a find that fits inside a spring cage and follow the supplied directions to attach the pendant to a cord. Help your child handle the small pieces and check the finished necklace before use.

Two cords mean two necklaces. The third spring cage gives you another pendant option—not a third cord necklace.
