Ever wondered what it’s like to excavate dinosaurs, dinosaurs that lived a very, very long time ago? That made for an awesome opportunity to discover just how fun it can be at PPT!
Super exciting is going on a dino dig! It is as if we are on the hunt for some hidden golden nugget of knowledge, but instead of mining for shiny gold or beautiful diamonds, we mine for old fossils buried deep in the earth. There is so much to discover, and every item we find rekindles the past, flooding us with joyful thrills. So it is a fun adventure that lets us engage with history in a clever and fun way.
The PPT crew went on a huge quest to find a dino skeleton. We were all so ready to start! We also used little shovels to shovel dirt and little brushes to brush the dirt off the fossils that we found. Digging can be hard work and sometimes we got tired, but it felt great when we dig it! Encouraged by the excitement of discovery, we cheered with each new piece of history that we unearthed.
We were able to find some really incredible fossils that had been buried for millions of years during our dino dig! Shark Tooth — We even found a gigantic T-Rex tooth that was very sharp and powerful looking! We also discovered the plates of a Stegosaurus — they were on its back — and some bones from a Triceratops, which sported a large, bony frill around its neck. It was so cool to see the remains of these ancient animals and learning what they ate and how they lived. Each fossil was a clue to the past, and each of us felt like a real-life scientist piecing together the past!
When we uncovered the dino bones, we had to clean them carefully and fit them together like a massive puzzle. It was amazing to see how much you can learn just from these bones. We found some dinosaurs had feathers, which surprised us, and others seemingly did not. We learned that some had sharp teeth that were good for eating meat, and others had flat teeth that were suited for nibbling on plants. We examined their bones to glean what we could of how they lived and what their world was like, long ago.
Our dino dig taught us so much about these incredible creatures. We watched scientists discover rare fossils and reveal the mysteries of dino skeletons. It helped us appreciate the hard work that goes into finding out about and making sense of the past.”
